Walk the Grounds with an Archaeologist: A Behind the Scenes Perspective

Saturday, August 10, 2019
1:00-3:30 p.m.

Program Fee:
$20 per adult | $10.00 per student (6-17) | Free for Children 5 and Under

This outdoor hike offers an in-depth educational overview of the history of Fort Ancient and of the people who came to ceremony, worship and live in this area. Guests will learn of the archaeological history and American Indian ingenuity that went into constructing the largest and best preserved hilltop enclosure in the United States 2,000 years ago. Participants will walk areas of the 125 acre enclosure and see things the average visitor may not see without a tour guide. This tour will cover over 2 miles and change your perspective of the vastness of Fort Ancient, a true world class earthwork that is on the short list for World heritage recognition.

Please note that the guided tour will depart the Museum at 1:00 p.m. Participants should dress for the weather and wear appropriate shoes. Keep in mind that as there is extensive walking for this tour and strollers may not be able to access all areas, it may not be appealing to very young children.

Online registration is now open. All proceeds benefit educational programs throughout the year.
